What is ACCESS?

The Advancing Child Competencies by Extending Supported Services (ACCESS) for Families Program is a study funded by the National Institutes of Health to explore behavior and developmental problems among young children aging out of Early Steps (Part C). All families will participate in five evaluations in their home to learn more about their child’s behavior and development. Families also may receive treatment designed to help change their child’s behaviors that will be conducted over the Internet using a tablet.

What are the benefits for participants in this program?

• May receive up to $450 and a tablet
• Participate with your child in thorough evaluations in your home
• May learn more about your child’s behavior and development
• May participate in a treatment program over the Internet in the comfort of your home at no cost to your family

Who is eligible?

Your child may be eligible if he or she is:
• Aging out of Early Steps (Part C) services
• Exhibiting problematic behaviors, such as, temper tantrums, hitting, biting, and/or yelling

El Programa ACCESO Para Familias es un estudio financiado por los Institutos Nacionales de Salud para explorar el comportamiento y los problemas de desarrollo entre los niños pequeños que están terminando los servicios de Early Steps (Parte C). Este programa se encuentra dentro del Centro para Niños y Familias y el Departamento de Psicología de la Florida International University ( FIU) . Todas las familias participarán en cinco evaluaciones hechas en casa para aprender más sobre el comportamiento y desarrollo de su hijo(a). Las familias también podrán recibir un tratamiento diseñado para ayudar a cambiar las conductas de su hijo(a) que se realizarán a través de Internet utilizando una tableta electrónica.

¿Cuáles son los beneficios para los participantes en este programa?

• Puede recibir hasta $450 y una tableta electrónica
• Participar con su hijo(a) en evaluaciones exhaustivas dentro de su hogar
• Puede aprender más sobre el desarrollo y el comportamiento de su hijo(a)

Our Team | Nuestro Equipo

Drs. Daniel Bagner and Jonathan Comer are both associate professors of psychology at Florida International University (FIU). Both Drs. Bagner and Comer specialize in studying evidence-based interventions for young children with behavior problems. They have authored a combined total of over 150 publications and have received funding from the National Institutes of Health and a variety of other foundations to conduct their research.

Ambos doctores, Bagner y Comer, se especializan en el estudio de las intervenciones basadas en evidencia para niños pequeños con problemas de conducta. Daniel M. Bagner, Ph.D., ABPP

Co-Principal Investigator
Dr. Bagner is the Director of the Early Childhood Behavior Lab, a Professor of Psychology at FIU, and is a licensed & board certified clinical child psychologist. He studies interventions for at-risk infants and young children and has published 60+ scientific articles on such topics.

Jonathan S. Comer, Ph.D.

Co-Principal Investigator
Dr. Comer is the Director of the Mental Health Interventions & Technology Program, an Associate Professor of Psychology & Psychiatry at FIU, & a licensed clinical psychologist. He researches treatments for child psychopathology & has published 100+ scientific articles on the topic.
